Vollenhove

Once called the city of palaces, Vollenhove is a pocket-sized waterside town in the Dutch province of Overijssel that earned its city rights in 1354 and later served as the summer residence of the Bishop of Utrecht. The medieval nobility who followed him here built their estates — known as havezates — in town, a concentration unusual for a settlement of this size. A compact café and restaurant scene sits at its centre, and the surrounding landscape offers scenic viewpoints across the water.
