Weißenfels
Burgenlandkreis · Germany
Town on the river Saale in southern Saxony-Anhalt, Weißenfels was once the residence of the Duchy of Saxony-Weißenfels, which existed from 1656 to 1746, and the early Baroque palace Schloss Neu-Augustusburg survives from that era alongside other listed monuments in the town centre. The walkable core has a good spread of cafés and restaurants, and the wider region holds several UNESCO World Heritage sites.
