Known internationally for the "Miracle of Wörgl" — a 1930s local currency experiment credited with reviving the town's economy during the Great Depression — this modest Tyrolean city sits in the Inn Valley in Austria's Kufstein district, with mountain terrain on all sides. First documented in 1104, Wörgl also saw significant fighting during the Tyrolean uprising of 1809 and suffered heavy destruction in the Second World War. A well-served base for the wider region, it sits within reach of UNESCO-listed heritage sites.
