Zamora
Zamora · Spain
Zamora holds more Romanesque churches than any other city in Europe — around two dozen 12th- and 13th-century temples concentrated in a walkable old town that has been a protected historic-artistic ensemble since 1973. The city sits on a rocky plateau above the Duero river, close to the Portuguese border in Castile and León. Holy Week here carries International Tourist Interest status, and the city also has a collection of Modernist buildings said to be unique among inland Spanish cities.
