Alaşehir
Manisa · Türkiye
Founded in antiquity as Philadelphia — meaning "the city of him who loves his brother" — Alaşehir is a town in Turkey's Manisa Province with a long Christian heritage visible in its many historic churches. It was a major centre of Orthodox Christianity until the early 20th century and remains a Roman Catholic titular see. Set at the foot of Bozdağ Mountain above the fertile Gediz River plain, the town is also synonymous across Turkey with dried Sultana raisins, and a local mineral spring produces a widely sold sparkling water.
