Borgarnes
Iceland
A modest Icelandic town on a peninsula at the edge of Borgarfjörður, Borgarnes serves as a gateway to Snaefellsnes National Park and a stopping point on the route between Reykjavík and the west of the country. The surrounding fjord and mountain scenery offers viewpoints worth pausing for, and the town has a reasonable spread of cafés and restaurants for its size. Snorri Sturluson, compiler of the Prose Edda, lived in the nearby settlement of Reykholt.
