A medieval ridge village in southern France's Aveyron, Najac is dominated by a partly ruined château built in 1253 on the orders of Alphonse de Poitiers, with the 13th-century Église Saint-Jean — constructed as a punishment for Cathar beliefs — overlooking the lower village. The whole settlement sits above a bend in the river Aveyron, with vineyards in the surrounding countryside and scenic views from the ridge. Six buildings carry historic monument status, and the village holds membership in the Plus Beaux Villages de France association.
