Called "Polish Carcassonne," Paczków is a compact town in southern Poland whose medieval fortifications have survived almost entirely intact — a rarity in Europe, and unlike the famous French original, these walls and towers are authentic rather than reconstructed. Designated a national Historic Monument in 2012, the old town sits between a river and a chain of reservoirs, with the Sudeten foothills rising nearby.
