Almansa

Moorish castle crowns the white limestone crag above Almansa, a wine-country town in Albacete province where vineyards spread across the surrounding plain. The town is also marked by the Battle of Almansa, fought nearby on 25 April 1707 during the War of Spanish Succession, when a Franco-Spanish-Irish force under the Duke of Berwick routed allied British, Portuguese, and Spanish troops — an event commemorated by a roadside obelisk and formally listed annual reenactments. The Moros y Cristianos festival runs each year from 1 to 6 May.
