Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski
Poland
One of Poland's historic centres of metallurgy and industry, Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski sits on the Kamienna river in southeastern Poland, with the Świętokrzyskie Mountains a short distance to the southwest. The town was part of the Old-Polish Industrial Region, the oldest industrial basin in the country, and received its city charter in 1613. Nearby, the Krzemionki archaeological reserve — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — and a dinosaur park in Bałtów offer excursions into the surrounding area, which also takes in scenic upland terrain.
