Sandomierz
Poland
Spread across seven hills above the Vistula River in south-eastern Poland, Sandomierz is a royal town whose preserved Old Town — declared a National Monument in 2017 — holds a walkable concentration of medieval and Renaissance buildings, historic churches, and cafés. Sometimes called "little Rome" for its hilltop topography, it was one of the most significant cities of Lesser Poland through the Middle Ages and retains that architectural record today. Vineyards in the surrounding area add a wine-country dimension to a visit.
