Tarnobrzeg
Poland
A walkable town in south-eastern Poland with a café-lined centre and vineyards nearby, Tarnobrzeg sits on the east bank of the Vistula in the Sandomierz Basin, directly bordering Sandomierz. Granted town rights in 1593, it remained modest for centuries before becoming Poland's largest centre of sulfur extraction and processing from the post-war decades through the early 1990s.
